Off-Campus Housing Services
Off-campus housing in the area around the University of Michigan campus is extensive and varied. The primary purpose of University Housing's Off-Campus Housing Program is to assist members of the University community in understanding the local housing market and to inform students, faculty, and staff about the housing opportunities available in the area, including those listed by over 555 area landlords, property managers, and management companies registered with the Housing Information Office.
"Off-campus housing" simply refers to any housing not owned and operated by the University. Off-campus housing includes shared housing - fraternities, sororities, and student owned-and-operated co-ops - as well as apartments, houses, and rooms.
We do not operate as a real estate office or show you specific rental units. However to help make the work of finding and securing housing easier, the Housing Information Office has advisors available to answer off-campus housing questions, provide a general orientation to the Ann Arbor area and lists of available housing, and assist you in starting your search.
Conflict Resolution Services
The Housing Information Office provides advising and conflict resolution services for students living off-campus. If you experience a problem with your landlord, neighbors, subtenants or roommates, you can call 763-4105 to speak with a Housing Advisor. He/she will help as a guide to resolving the conflict. If initial attempts to solve the problem don't work, you will be offered the use of mediation, a formal problem solving process that has proven a success at achieving mutually satisfactory written agreements. Go to our Conflict Resolution page.
